Workshop Overview: Illicit economies, including the production and trafficking of illicit drugs, have profound impacts on conflict, terrorism, and counter-terrorism. These illicit activities can finance terrorism, facilitate rebel governance practices, and destabilize regions. Both Türkiye and Colombia have extensive experience in combating terrorism and drugs, offering valuable lessons and insights.
Objectives: The workshop aims to convene experts and scholars to:
- Dissect the multifaceted dynamics of drug-related issues in conflict zones,
- Examine how these illicit economies influence conflict, terrorism, and counter-terrorism,
- Share experiences from different countries and contexts to foster a comprehensive understanding of the challenges posed by drug economies,
- Develop more effective counter-terrorism strategies informed by shared knowledge and experiences.
